There’s one thing that drives the consumers of today more than needing the latest in fashion clothing, and that is getting the designer clothing at the best bargain possible. Sometimes, there are many great finds at local malls, but other times a shopper may want to look into what consignment and thrift stores can offer as well. Redlands, California, is home to many unique local shops that offer both discounts and consignment. There are three shops in particular that are known for having a great selection of inventory at an even better price.

Scarlet Threads is a best-kept secret in consignment stores. They open only one weekend every year at 700 East Redlands Blvd., Suite B3. This year, the weekend is June 7 to 10, with a VIP evening on June 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for anyone who was lucky enough to snag a $5 pass through PayPal.

The event is operated by volunteers; consignors can present their gently used designer wear, shoes, accessories, handbags, and home decor. Hours of operation are Friday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Anyone visiting for the discounts may also want a bargain on a hotel room. Book a hotel nearby so you can get in on the shopping action as early as possible.

Blues Estate Store

The Blues Estate Store is a vintage clothing store that can be found in Downtown Redlands at 114 E. State St. They are known for buying estates and reselling not just clothes but antiques, art, electronics, and furniture. They are also known for having a large selection of vintage blue jeans.

This family-owned shop is established in the community and has become a staple of shopping in Redlands. Their hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. They’re open until 10 p.m. on Thursdays and on Sundays and Mondays by appointment only.

Redlands Thrift Store

Redlands Thrift Store at 614 Alabama St. in Redlands is not just another thrift store. They also hold public and private auctions for unique and rare items, like vintage scooters and antique furniture. While that is an interesting take on shopping with a budget, they still have plenty to offer for anyone looking to get more fashion and clothing for less cash without participating in their auctions. Their doors are open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Sunday, when the hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There are nearly a dozen consignment and thrift stores in Redlands that cater to the local economy, but these often see a frequent number of visitors and tourists that want in on the discounts as well. People come from all over for the auctions at Redlands Thrift Store, and the annual event Scarlet Threads hosts pull in crowds not just from neighboring cities, but states as well. Those looking for a bargain will be pleasantly surprised by the options Redlands has to offer.
